History

Trimley Red Devils was formed in 1975 with a single team of boys of varying ages ranging between 9 and 11, with the first age restricted side being initiated in 1979 with an under 8 team. Over the years the Club has steadily increased the number of youth teams playing football covering age groups Under 8’s to 18’s, and now includes the Under 6 and 7’s, who are known as the Red Imps, where the emphasis is on developing skills and confidence through structured age-appropriate coaching.

Ever since the first days of football with Trimley Red Devils, games have been played on Stennetts Playing field in Trimley St Mary. The Club’s younger age groups have in the past also played at: Trimley St. Mary School; the Trimley Sports & Social Club; former Deben High School/Felixstowe International College playing field. Currently the Seaton Park and Walton Recreation Ground in Felixstowe are being used in addition to Stennetts Playing Field.

Youth Team honours have been plentiful over the years with League and Cup successes across all age groups and in a variety of leagues including; the Suffolk Youth League (formerly the South Suffolk Youth League), Ipswich & Suffolk Youth League, Suffolk & Essex League, the Black Tiles League and the Felixstowe and District League. The U14 Team received the Felixstowe & District Sports Council ‘Certificate of Achievement Award for Football’ in 2010.

Individual awards and achievements have also been abundant over the years and a number of the Club’s players continue to be selected to represent the County Representative and Suffolk Schools teams.

The Club has been successful in nurturing players and are keen to provide a step towards football excellence with many players being involved in the ITFC Player Development Centre, through to the Academies at both Ipswich Town and Norwich City. Currently, a former TRD player Matthew Bloomfield plays professionally for Wycombe Wanderers and in the recent past Jack Ainsley played professionally for Ipswich Town.

As a Club, Trimley had built up a strong relationship with the Velo club from Wateringen in Holland and enjoying exchange visits from 1991 to 2017.

In 2013, Trimley Red Devils FC achieved the FA Charter Standard Club accreditation; The FA formally recognises the Club as one that is committed to raising standards throughout grassroots football and ensuring that it is well organised, well managed and providing a positive experience for all players, coaches and volunteers involved.

Trimley Red Devils also runs a Senior First team and Senior Reserve side that are comprised of many former Trimley youth players. The Senior side was introduced in 2005 and plays in the Macron Suffolk & Ipswich League (SIL) Senior Division (having gained promotion in the 2017/18 season). Both Senior sides were Cup Finals Runners Up in 2017/18. The SIL presented TRD FC Seniors with the ‘Junior Club of the Season Award 2017/18’. The Senior Reserves achieved a League and Cup double success in the 2018/19 season, and subsequently received the Felixstowe & District Sports Council ‘Team of the Year Award’ in 2020.
